commemoration in the Chapel of Saint Monica, which overlooks Piazza del
Sant’Uffizio and is closely linked to his spiritual journey. The chapel, now
his titular church since being elevated to the cardinalate in 2023, holds deep
personal and ecclesial significance.<o:p></o:p>

Printed for the occasion was a
commemorative holy card bearing words inspired by Saint Augustine: “For me
to feed all of you with ordinary bread is something I cannot do. Yet this Word
is your portion. I feed you from the same table which nourishes me. I am your
servant.” The image accompanying the card was a 15th-century Russian icon
of the Last Supper - an emblem of his lifelong commitment to service at the

Robert Francis Prevost was ordained a
priest on 19 June 1982 by Archbishop Jean Jadot of Belgium, then Pro-President

his solemn vows in 1981 and studied Canon Law at the Pontifical University of

born on December 24, 1962, in Kalaketty of the Diocese of Palai, Kerala and was
ordained as a priest for the Diocese of Jullundur on May 1, 1991.&nbsp;After his minor seminary formation in
Trichur (1978-1982), he then pursued philosophical and theological studies at
St. Charles Inter-Diocesan Major Seminary in Nagpur. He earned a Licentiate in
Canon Law from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome.After his priestly ordination in 1991, he
developed his priestly ministry in different places and in different capacities
in the Diocese of Jullundur. Among other roles he has been Member of the
Diocesan Board of Education. Presbyteral Council (1996-2002); Dean of Amritsar

Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) has officially appointed Fr M Julian
Fernando as the new Administrator of Caritas India. The announcement was made
during the 149th Standing Committee meeting of the CBCI.<o:p></o:p>

&nbsp;Born in 1970, Fr Julian Fernando was
ordained a priest of the Diocese of Varanasi in 2000. He holds a Bachelor of
Arts degree in Philosophy and a Master’s degree in History from Madurai Kamaraj
University, Tamil Nadu, as well as a Master of Social Work from Loyola College,
Chennai.

&nbsp;Fr Fernando began his priestly ministry as
Assistant Parish Priest at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Varanasi. Over the years, he
has served in various capacities including Secretary of the Prison Ministry and
Assistant Director of the Social Welfare Society in the Diocese of Varanasi.
His experience extends to roles such as Director of CBR Programs in Uttar
Pradesh, Manager of Amar Vani School for the Hearing-Impaired in Mau, Secretary
of the Society for Handicapped in Varanasi, and since 2018, Director of the Social
Welfare Society in the Diocese of Varanasi.

Fr M Julian Fernando Appointed Administrator of Caritas India 

New Delhi, June 1, 2025, CBCI:&nbsp; The official declaration of the Vatican’s
recognition of the Eucharistic sign at Christ the King Parish, Vilakkannur, in
the Indian state of Kerala, took place on Saturday, May 31, 2025. Archbishop
Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic Nuncio to India and Archbishop Joseph Pamplany of
the Archdiocese of Tellicherry, presided over the ceremonies, which included
the reading of the official declaration and the exposition of the miraculous
host for public veneration.<o:p></o:p>

The events leading to the declaration began
on November 13, 2013, at Christ the King Church in Vilakkannur, during morning
Holy Mass. The then-parish priest, Fr. Thomas Pathikkal, was celebrating the
Holy Qurbana when he noticed the Holy Face of Jesus manifesting itself on the
Eucharistic host. He immediately placed the Eucharist in a monstrance and
concluded the Mass.<o:p></o:p>

What followed were years of study and
deliberation. The miraculous host was initially relocated to the Archbishop’s
House in Thalassery by order of then Archbishop Mar George Valiyamattam. A
doctrinal commission, including Mar Joseph Kallarangatt, Mar George
Njaralakkatt, and Mar Joseph Arumachadath, was appointed by Cardinal George
Alencherry, then-Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, to begin an
official ecclesiastical investigation.<o:p></o:p>

Subsequently, a special committee of
theological and scientific experts was tasked with an in-depth study of the
event. The report, submitted on December 21, 2013, acknowledged the
significance of the apparition.<o:p></o:p>

In 2018, the host was sent to Rome via the
Apostolic Nuncio for further analysis, as only the Vatican’s Congregation for
the Doctrine of the Faith could provide an official confirmation of the
miracle. Nearly a decade later, the host was returned to India for additional
examination.<o:p></o:p>

Christ University in Bangalore was selected
to carry out three key scientific procedures to evaluate the credibility of the
event. The tests - Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy analysis,
High-Performance Liquid Chromatography, and Mass Spectrometry - concluded that
there were no external materials or signs of tampering. The chemical makeup of
the image was found to be consistent with the rest of the host, supporting the
miraculous nature of the event.<o:p></o:p>

A comprehensive report detailing the
findings was submitted to the Vatican on April 2, 2024. Nearly a year later, on
March 19, 2025, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith formally
declared that there was no canonical obstacle to recognizing the Vilakkannur
Eucharistic phenomenon as an extraordinary occurrence.<o:p></o:p>

This declaration was read aloud by
Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli during the Holy Mass at Christ the King Church in
Vilakkannur on May 31 2025. The miraculous Eucharist, brought to the church in
a solemn procession, was placed in a monstrance for public veneration. Numerous
Bishops, Priests, Religious and Faithful from across Kerala were present to
witness this historic event, which will forever be etched in the history of
Indian Christianity.<o:p></o:p>

Dr Wilson Cheruvil has been appointed as the Associate Director of St. John’s
Medical College Hospital at Brigade Meadows of the St. John’s National Academy
of Health Sciences in Bangalore. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India
(CBCI) officially confirmed the appointment during its 149th Standing Committee
meeting.<o:p></o:p>

An ordained priest of the Catholic Diocese
of Gorakhpur since May 8, 2008, Rev. Dr Cheruvil currently serves as the
Associate Director of Fatima Hospital, Gorakhpur, a role he has held since
October 2017. Over the years, he has contributed significantly to the Diocese
through various leadership positions including Vice-Principal, Secretary to the
Bishop, and Assistant Director of Fatima Hospital.<o:p></o:p>

Rev. Dr Cheruvil brings to his new role a
robust academic and professional background. He holds a Ph.D. in Management
from Christ University, Bengaluru, and has earned an MHA from St. John’s
Medical College, an MBA in Human Resource Management from Jaipur University, a
B.Ed. from IGNOU, and an M.A. in English from DDU University, Gorakhpur. In
addition, he holds postgraduate diplomas in Quality Management of Healthcare
and Hospital Organisations (PGDQMHHO) and Medico-Legal Systems (PGDMLS) from
Symbiosis International University, Pune.<o:p></o:p>

With over 13 years of experience in the
healthcare sector, his expertise includes hospital and healthcare
administration, human resource management, agile HR practices, organisational
behaviour, and quality accreditation standards such as NABH. He has also
contributed to academic research with four international publications and three
presentations at international conferences.<o:p></o:p>

Ajit Kerketta has been appointed as the Associate Director of St. John’s
Medical College Hospital and St. John’s College of Nursing, both part of the
prestigious St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences in Bangalore. His
appointment was officially confirmed during the 149th meeting of the Standing
Committee of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI).<o:p></o:p>

A priest of the Archdiocese of Delhi and
originally hailing from the Diocese of Simdega in Jharkhand, Fr. Ajit brings
with him a wealth of experience in pastoral, administrative, and healthcare
management roles.<o:p></o:p>

He previously served in the Archdiocese of
Delhi as Assistant Parish Priest at the Immaculate Conception Church in Kanhai,
Gurgaon, Haryana. During this time, he also served as Secretary to Emeritus
Archbishop Vincent M. Concessao, and later as Secretary to Archbishop Anil J.T.
Couto.<o:p></o:p>

Fr. Ajit’s academic journey includes an
undergraduate degree from St. Francis De Sales College, Nagpur, philosophical
studies at St. Charles Seminary, Nagpur, and a Bachelor of Theology from
Vidyajyoti College, Delhi. He also holds a Master’s degree in Economics from
Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, and a Master’s in Hospital Administration
from St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in
Human Resource Management at Christ University, Bangalore.<o:p></o:p>

In addition to his academic and pastoral
work, Fr. Ajit also served as Human Resources Manager at St. Martha’s Hospital,
Bangalore, for nearly two years, gaining valuable experience in healthcare
administration.<o:p></o:p>

New Delhi, June 2, 2025, CBCI: In a moving
conclusion to the Jubilee of Families, Children, Grandparents and the Elderly,
Pope Leo XIV delivered a heartfelt homily during a celebratory Mass at St.
Peter’s Square on Sunday, calling families the "cradle of humanity’s
future" and urging the world to ground love in Christ to foster unity and
peace.<o:p></o:p>

The square was filled with thousands of
families from around the globe, gathering under the summer sun for the special
Mass that marked the closing of the Jubilee celebration. The Pope reflected
deeply on the sacredness of the family as both a sanctuary of communion and a
seedbed of faith.<o:p></o:p>

Drawing from the day’s Gospel, in which
Jesus prays at the Last Supper “that all may be one,” Pope Leo described unity
as “the greatest good that we can desire,” emphasizing that such oneness is not
humanly manufactured but is a divine gift born from the same love with which
God created life and offered salvation.<o:p></o:p>

“God’s love,” the Holy Father said, “is
infinite - without end. The love He has for each of us is no less than the love
He has for His Son.” He reminded the faithful that life itself is a gift - one
that begins not by our choice but by grace.<o:p></o:p>

Quoting Pope Francis, Pope Leo noted, “We
are all sons and daughters, but none of us chose to be born.” He reflected on
the interdependence that marks the human journey from the moment of birth. “All
of us are alive today thanks to a relationship,” he said, “a free and freeing
relationship of human kindness and mutual care.”<o:p></o:p>

The Pope concluded his message with an
invitation to cherish and protect family life, and to root it in the love of
Christ - “the only love that never fails, the only love that unites all
generations.”<o:p></o:p>

As bells rang out across the Vatican and
families embraced in the Square, the Pope’s words echoed with renewed hope for
a future built on compassion, connection, and enduring love.<o:p></o:p>

has appointed Fr. Benny Edayath (Sebastian), as the Assistant Director of
Caritas India. &nbsp;Catholic Bishops’
Conference of India (CBCI) officially confirmed the appointment during its
149th Standing Committee meeting.<o:p></o:p>

Fr. Benny Edayath (Sebastian), from
Thirumeni, Kannur District, Kerala, is a priest of the Diocese of Bathery,
ordained in December 2003. Over the past 22 years, experience has been gained
in various pastoral, social, and spiritual ministries of the Church.<o:p></o:p>

Served as Executive Director of Shreyas,
the official social service organization of the Diocese of Bathery, for six
years. Also held positions such as Chancellor of the Diocese, Director of the
Catechism Department, Director of the Family Apostolate, and Vicar of 26
parishes, including the Cathedral Church.<o:p></o:p>

Educational qualifications include a
Postgraduate degree in Social Work from St. Joseph’s College, Devagiri,
Calicut, and an LL.B. from Government Law College, Calicut. Legal practice was
carried out at the Municipal Court in Mananthavady for two years.<o:p></o:p>

Currently serving as the CEO of Fathima
College, Nilambur. Extensive involvement in social service includes roles such
as Regional Director and Unit Director of Shreyas, and Director of Snehabhavan
Orphanage, Mananthavady.<o:p></o:p>

Fr. Benny Edayath Appointed Assistant Director of Caritas India

has appointed Fr. R. Jesudass as the Executive Director of Caritas India. &nbsp;Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India
(CBCI) officially confirmed the appointment during its 149th Standing Committee
meeting.

Fr. Jesudass was born on April 16, 1976, in
Visuvasamapatti, a village under Our Lady of Lourdes Church. He completed his
early education at Little Flower Primary School, Pallikonda, St. Mary’s High
School, Harur, and Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Salem. He pursued
higher education at St. Joseph’s Arts and Science College, Cuddalore, and
received his priestly formation at St. Peter’s Pontifical Seminary, Bangalore,
and Sacred Heart Seminary, Poonamallee. He was ordained in 2004 for the Diocese
of Dharmapuri.

Fr. Jesudass holds academic degrees in
Social Work (MSW), English Literature (MA), Education (B.Ed.), and Commerce
(B.Com.), equipping him with a broad perspective on social issues and
development.

Throughout his ministry, Fr. Jesudass has
served in various capacities in education, pastoral care, and social
development. He was Principal of Don Bosco Matric Higher Secondary Schools in
Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri. From 2018 to 2023, he was Director of the
Dharmapuri Social Service Society (DSSS).

Recognized by Caritas India as a
#RealLifeHero, he played a key role in pre-COVID awareness campaigns and
emergency relief work. He was Director of the Tamil Nadu Social Service Society
(TASOSS). He has also served as Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Bishops' Council
(TNBC) Commissions for Migrants and SC/ST Health, contributing to advocacy and
community development for marginalized groups.<o:p></o:p>

Fr. R. Jesudass Appointed Executive Director of Caritas India

New Delhi, May 31, 2025, CBCI: Fr. Ajith B.
Menezes has been appointed as the Associate Director of St. John’s Medical
College and St. John’s Research Institute of the St. John’s National Academy of
Health Sciences, Bangalore. His appointment was confirmed by the Catholic
Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) Standing Committee during its 149th
meeting.<o:p></o:p>

Fr. Menezes was born in 1979 in Bantwal and
belongs to the Diocese of Mangalore. In addition to his priestly formation, he
brings a strong academic and professional background, holding a Diploma in
Civil Engineering, a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Development, and an MBA
with a specialization in healthcare management.<o:p></o:p>

Fr Menezes has previously served in various
key administrative roles, including Assistant Director and Director In-Charge
of St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor. He has also held leadership
positions as Assistant Administrator and Administrator of Father Muller Medical
College Hospital, as well as Administrator of both Father Muller College of
Allied Health Sciences and Father Muller College of Physiotherapy.<o:p></o:p>

Fr Ajith B. Menezes Appointed Associate Director of St. John’s Medical College and Research Institute

New Delhi, May 30, 2025 CBCI: The Synod of
the Syro-Malankara Major Archepiscopal Church has officially accepted the
resignation of Bishop Joshua Mar Ignathios Kizhakkeveettil from the pastoral
care of the Eparchy of Mavelikara. In his place, Bishop Mathews Mar Polycarpos
Manakkarakavil has been appointed as the new bishop of Mavelikara.<o:p></o:p>

Bishop Mathews Mar Polycarpos, who
previously served as auxiliary bishop of the Archeparchy of Trivandrum and held
the titular see of Canatha, will now assume full pastoral leadership of the
Mavelikara Eparchy.<o:p></o:p>

Born on November 10, 1955, Bishop
Polycarpos received his initial formation at St. Aloysius Minor Seminary in
Trivandrum and continued his theological studies at St. Thomas Apostolic
Seminary in Vadavathoor. He was ordained a priest on December 18, 1982.<o:p></o:p>

An academic by background, Bishop
Polycarpos studied at several universities in India and at the Institut
Catholique de Paris. He holds a doctorate in literature from Manonmaniam
Sundaranar University (2010). Over the years, he has served in various roles
including lecturer and head of Mar Ivanios College, parish priest in multiple
communities and missions, and as Protosyncellus of the Trivandrum archeparchy.<o:p></o:p>

He was elected auxiliary bishop of
Trivandrum and titular bishop of Canatha on May 7, 2022, and received episcopal
ordination on July 15 of the same year.<o:p></o:p>

Bishop Mathews Mar Polycarpos Appointed as New Bishop of Mavelikara; Bishop Joshua Mar Ignathios Resigns

New Delhi, May 25, 2025, CBCI: In his first
official audience with officials of the Roman Curia, the employees of the Holy
See, the Governorate of Vatican City State, and the Vicariate of Rome, His
Holiness Pope Leo XIV delivered a heartfelt address emphasizing memory,
mission, and unity within the Church.<o:p></o:p>The meeting took place on Saturday morning
in the Paul VI Hall and was marked by a warm atmosphere, with the Pope
humorously noting the extended applause: “When the applause lasts longer than
the address, I will have to make a longer address! So… be careful!”<o:p></o:p>After invoking a blessing, the Holy Father
expressed deep gratitude to the Curial staff and their families, many of whom
were present due to the weekend. Reflecting on his personal journey -from
serving as a missionary and bishop in Peru to his time as Prefect of the
Dicastery for Bishops - Pope Leo acknowledged the weight of responsibility he
has inherited.<o:p></o:p>“Popes pass, the Curia remains,” he noted,
highlighting the essential role the Roman Curia plays in preserving the
Church’s historical memory and guiding its future. He underscored that working
in the Curia means more than administration; it is about nourishing the living
memory of the Apostolic See.<o:p></o:p>Pope Leo XIV also reaffirmed the missionary
dimension of the Church, praising the reforms of his predecessor Pope Francis
and the orientation of the Roman Curia toward evangelization through Praedicate
Evangelium. He emphasized the importance of being “a Church that builds
bridges and encourages dialogue… open to welcoming with open arms.”<o:p></o:p>Calling for a spirit of unity and charity
in everyday work, the Pope urged all present to be “builders of unity,”
promoting understanding, humility, and even humor in the workplace.<o:p></o:p>











The address concluded with a prayer to the
Virgin Mary for blessings upon Vatican institutions and the families of all
present. Together with the assembly, Pope Leo led the recitation of the “Hail
Mary,” invoking peace and guidance.<o:p></o:p>
